Uber Pet is Uber’s ride-share alternative that allows the rider to get accompanied by their pets on the trip. You will be paying a small surcharge to get around together with your pet.
About Uber Pet
Uber Pet is ideal for when you are running a quick errand, visiting your friends, or going to the vet with your pet in tow. Requesting this pet-friendly trip is as simple as booking your standard UberX rides. As an additional step, you have to “Customize” your ride by selecting a “Pet-Friendly ride” from the swipe-up menu.
This ride-share alternative has a limit of one pet per trip. And as for other passengers, a maximum of two passengers are advised to be traveling with a pet. Nonetheless, it is at the discretion of the driver to accommodate any additional passengers.
Does Uber Pet cost more than UberX?
Uber Pet can be viewed as the customized version of your standard Uber ride. So, in order to accommodate your furry friend on the ride, you will be charged more than the regular vehicle fares. The surcharge is variable and can range from $3 to $5.
In addition, the driver can charge a cleaning fee under any of the following circumstances:
- If your pet leaves waste (urine, feces, vomit, etc.)
- Excessive hair shedding
- If your pet ends up damaging the vehicle
Uber acknowledges that a little hair shedding and animal odor are normal when traveling with a pet and thus levies no cleaning fee for that. Moreover, to avoid additional costs, it is advisable to carry a towel or other covering to cover and protect vehicle seats from unwanted damage.
Do I need to book an Uber Pet if I travel with a service animal?
No, Uber Pet is designed for pet animals and their owners. If you are a passenger with a service animal in tow, you can order just about any ride-share product type. Drivers are obligated by law (Device and Service Animal Policy) to allow service animals on rides. So, you can travel with your service animal without paying any extra charges.
Moreover, as a rider with special mobility needs, you can book an Uber Assist as well. An Assist ride is chauffeured by a specially trained driver-partner to assist you during your trip. In fact, although Uber Assist offers the riders some extra help during the ride, the ride would cost you the same as an UberX.
What animals can I bring with me on Pet trips?
Uber has limited the animal types to just dogs and cats. There are no size or breed restrictions. However, other animal types are not allowed on the ride and if your driver-partner gives a green signal for another pet type, make sure to bring your pet in a carrier.
Also, it is at the discretion of your driver to approve whether they deem a pet safe or controllable to make a trip.
Additionally, it is the responsibility of the rider to control their pet during the entire trip. And, if you have more than one pet with you, you must notify the driver in advance for them to decide if they want to make the trip or not.
