Uber Comfort vs XL

Uber Comfort was launched to provide passengers with a roomier travel experience. On the other hand, Uber XL is meant for parties of up to 6 passengers at an economic price. Uber is constantly updating the list of its offerings with new ride-sharing and/or delivery options. Each ride type comes with unique customization in a bid to offer its customers enhanced services. Here’s a brief look at Uber Comfort vs XL.

This service was designed for passengers who value comfort with custom controls of their trip.

Uber Comfort offers the rider more legroom than a standard Uber ride. In addition, as the rider, you get to make certain ride preferences, such as temperature controls of the vehicle and whether you’d prefer to chat or not.

Moreover, when you request a Comfort ride, you will be driven to your destination by a top-rated driver in a newer vehicle model.

What is Uber XL?

This particular ride-sharing type by Uber is designed to meet the needs of larger groups of riders. The Uber XL ride offers budget-friendly rides for up to 6 people in vehicles such as SUVs. Nonetheless, some riders request an XL when looking for extra space to store their luggage. This makes it ideal for airport trips.

The concept of the ride type is like UberX in terms of affordability.

How are the vehicle types different for the said services?

Uber Comfort accommodates a maximum of 4 riders whereas there can be up to 6 riders per Uber XL. Moreover, there are a set of minimum requirements for a vehicle to qualify for the Comfort segment (such as the car needs to be newer than 6 years).

When requesting an Uber Comfort, you can expect to travel in a full-size sedan. Some common vehicle models in this range are:

  • Toyota Rav4
  • Kia Soul
  • Honda Odyssey
  • Dodge Durango
  • Chevy Tahoe

Similarly, typical XL vehicles include a minivan or an SUV such as:

  •  Honda Pilot
  • Dodge Caravan
  • GMC Acadia
  • Ford Explorer
  • Hyundai Santa Fe

Uber Comfort vs XL: Driver Ratings

To become a Comfort driver, the driver must necessarily have completed 500+ trips with an average rating of 4.85. In contrast, Uber XL drivers need to maintain an average rating score of 4.6 or higher. This is why the company markets Uber Comfort as a luxurious offering on a budget with top-rated drivers for a comfortable trip.

Uber Comfort vs XL: Pricing of the ride types

Uber Comfort is an upscaled version of the company’s low-cost, standard ride-sharing option — UberX. To provide the additional comfort or feeling of luxury, a Comfort ride will have roughly a 20–30% fare hike over UberX. Furthermore, XL trips have fares comparable to Comfort rides. For instance, if booking a Comfort trip is costing you $12-$16, then requesting an XL will cost you somewhere between $15-$20. It should be noted that ride fares can vary depending on the time of the day, traffic, or seasonal discounts.

Also for both — Uber Comfort and Uber XL, the fares are higher than UberX. Additionally, to get an in-depth understanding of the ride types discussed in the article, you can visit the Uber Guide website.
